Statement

I love to paint. Painting is a passion I’ve been nurturing since my early 30s, when I started to experiment with colors, paints, subjects, and composition. I found motivation in painting the places I had been visiting in the US Mountain West. In a self-taught manner, I developed a workflow that guides me during the painting process. It includes: awe, contemplation, realization, and joy! My compositions are created while I am recreating outdoors. Like many, I am drawn to the openness of nature. I mostly interpret the outdoors in straight lines, with geometry, bold traces, contrasting colors, and many tints, shades, and tones. The result is often art that gives the feeling of warmth or cold, art that reproduces bright days or changing skies, and art that reflects the grandness and contrasts that one experiences in open lands. Ultimately, my intention is to convey the beauty of Utah landscapes and beyond, in a colorful, playful, and contemporary format while enjoying the process of drawing and painting.

Biography

I was born in Puerto La Cruz, a coastal town in northeastern Venezuela. I was brought up by a hardworking and caring family with a taste for good food, beach time, and great parties. I attended college in Merida, in the Venezuelan Andes, where I majored with a degree in Biology. In 2003, I moved to Logan, UT, where I studied Biochemistry at Utah State University. After graduating with a Master's degree, I moved to Salt Lake City for a job as a Biotechnology mentor at the Salt Lake Community College. Soon after moving to SLC, I started to produce art pieces that reflected my respect and fascination for the outdoors. I now work at the U of U, where I support research that studies how addictive substances affect fruit fly behavior. In a nutshell, I am a landscape painter and an outdoors avid on my spare time, with a formal education and a career in science. I have always been strongly drawn to nature, and my curiosity has led me to study it under the rigor of an academic environment and in an artistic free-spirited, self-though manner.
